About Us

OWC 40th Anniversary LogoThanks for visiting Ocean Waves Campground! We’re a family owned and operated campground on Hatteras Island, at the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Ocean Waves opened in 1985, and it was built by Clyde Bullock Sr. and his son, Clyde Jr., on a patch of dirt and scrubby trees and weeds in what felt like, then, the middle of nowhere. In addition to the 68 full-hookup sites with concrete slabs, we have, over the years, added three bathhouses, a camp store with a game room and laundromat, a swimming pool, a dog area, and a playground. We also have a lot of full-grown pine trees on many of the sites, which offer some welcome shade in the summertime.

We’ve added people to our campground family along the way, with Carolyn joining her husband Clyde many years ago, and they managed the campground together after Sr.’s passing. Clyde and Carolyn’s daughter, Barbara, joined them in 2012, and her children, Alyssa and Cole now also work at Ocean Waves. And you’ll probably see Alyssa’s kids running around as well, which makes five generations of the Bullock family at Ocean Waves Campground that have been providing a fun and affordable way to vacation at the Outer Banks for multiple generations of many families since 1985!

Bullock Family

We’re not the biggest or the fanciest campground on the island, but you will definitely love the family-friendly atmosphere, and the short walk over the dune at the end of the campground makes the ocean an easy option any time you feel like being on the beach, day or night.

And besides the beach and swimming pool, we have a well-stocked camp store with necessities and treats and souvenirs. And there are lots of things to do close by, once you leave camp, from lighthouses to water sports to nature trails to amazing places to eat. However you choose to spend your vacation, Ocean Waves Campground is centrally located and convenient to everything on the Outer Banks.

Most of our campers return year after year, which really speaks to the service we provide, the quality of the camping experience, and the relationships that campers develop with each other. There are many families that met here once upon a time, and now plan their annual visits together. And the tradition is often one that is handed down, as children who grew up camping at Ocean Waves now return, year after year, with their own children.

Thank you for visiting Ocean Waves Campground. We look forward to seeing you soon!
